Minister to speak on Day 2

Elliot Morley MP, Minister of State (Climate Change and Environment) will be making a keynote speech on Day 2 of resource05 when the focus turns to delivering low carbon, energy efficient buildings for the non-domestic sector.

Delivering sustainable communities

Day 3 of resource05 concentrates on reducing the carbon impacts created by towns and cities. Allan Jones of London Climate Change Agency, Chris Horn from the Elephant & Castle project and Christiane Egger from the Upper Austrian Energy Agency are among the team of speakers who will be looking at the challenges and suggesting some solutions. The afternoon debate will be led by Dr Sue Roaf of Oxford Brookes University who will investigate the idea that correct siting can make a development more sustainable.

Don’t miss the one day biomass conference which runs alongside the final day of resource05. Guest speakers include Sir Ben Gill, Head of the Government’s Biomass Task Force, Peter Billins of British Biogen, Stewart Boyle of Wood Energy and Christiane Egger of the Upper Austria Energy Agency. Red herring or red hot? will look at the opportunities for building integrated biomass heat and electricity in the UK and discuss some of the key issues: technologies, cost effectiveness, fuel production, distribution and trading.

DTI commissions new study into microgeneration

The Energy Saving Trust has been asked to examine the role of microgeneration in the UK's future energy strategy. The study, which will feed into the current consultation on microgeneration and low carbon buildings, will review market barriers, identify cost effective measures to support the development of technologies, and help develop a strategy that will create the right competitive environment for these technologies.

Implementing the Revised Part F

As of January 2006 Part F is being changed to mandate increased levels of ventilation in homes and offices. Failure to comply will make offenders liable to fines and delays in their building projects.
