resourceO5 opens on Tuesday

Three days of presentations, debates, workshops, tours and demonstrations on low carbon buildings and renewable technologies - including key note speech from Elliott Morley Wednesday lunchtime. Visit the show houses in BRE’s InnovationPark and see the exhibition with both small and large scale exhibits.

Don’t miss out - book on line now at http://www.resource05.co.uk/booking1.jsp

See the renewable energy systems installed in the InnovationPark.

Small scale wind

Small scale wind

Windsave have installed their 1kW turbine on the Hanson House. Installation for a system that is expected to provide up to 50% of an average house energy needs, took less than a day. BRE intends to grid-connect the system and run it as part of a performance testing programme.

PV Roof Tiles

PV roof tiles

Lafarge have installed their roof-integrated solar PV tiles in the Innovation Park. Integrating the system was simple as only a portion of the tiles have to be removed - not the whole roof. The tiles connect in series to form a sun-fueled power station which is then connected to the conventional electricity supply via an AC/DC inverter. The electrical installation, by local PV experts Chelsfield Solar, takes up an internal area no bigger than a small TV.

Biomass boiler

Solar Thermal are using resource05 to launch Windhager's new Biowin Pellet Boiler system in the UK and have set-up a model in the garage of the Hanson House. Compact enough to sit in a corner, the system can supply enough heat for the whole house. Biowin comes with pellet hopper and an internal ash tray that only needs emptying once a year.

Solar water heating

Solar Thermal have also installed their Thermomax solar water heating system on the Hanson House, to complement the pellet boiler. The system, which is only a little larger than a Velux window, can provide all hot water heating needs for most of the year, requiring only a small back-up immersion heater in the winter months.

underfloor heating

Air-source heat pump and underfloor heating

MS Frise have installed a mock up of an Alpha Innotec Heat Pump system outside the Hanson House. This transfers heat from the air into an underfloor heating system provided by German manufacturers, Roth. The heat pump works on the same principle as a fridge, using the temperature difference to extract heat from the air and transfer it to the building's heating system.

New arrival

BRE is pleased to welcome Mijlotek Oresund to resource05. The Swedish organisation represents a number of companies in the Swedish biomass industry including Pellets Korgen AB, Eurofire Ekosystem AB, Naturenergi IWAB AB and TPS/Tall Oil AB.

N.B. The renewable heating installations are not yet operational on the Hanson House because it is only occupied for business use at the moment. It is planned to provide working systems once a full use profile can be established.

Free events for exhibition-only visitors

Those not attending the main conference don't have to miss out. Free events for exhibition-only visitors are being held on all three days of resource05, including tours, workshops, seminars and presentations from exhibitors and main conference speakers.
