The Low Carbon Technologies Conference and Exhibition
BRE Headquarters, Watford, 13 - 15 September, 2005
Supported by the Energy Saving Trust, the Carbon Trust and RIBA
Increasing concern about the momentum of climate change, together with new regulations on the energy and environmental performance of buildings, makes resource05 an important and timely event for both delegates and exhibitors.
The three day programme of seminars will show, via case studies, demonstrations and visits, how the construction industry can meet the demands set by EU and UK policies on energy efficiency and low carbon technology.
Each day the programme will address a different sector: Housing; Non-Domestic Buildings; and Communities. Leading practitioners from across the industry will talk about the latest approaches being used to reduce the environmental impact of both new build and refurbishment projects.
Minister’s keynote speech
On Wednesday, 14th September Mike O'Brien, the Minister for Energy, will present a keynote speech on the theme of low carbon technologies in non-domestic buildings.
Exhibitor discounts
Companies signing up for exhibition space before the end of February will benefit from an early bird discount scheme which can reduce stand prices by as much as £500. For details call BRE Events on 01923 664800 or email resource05@bre.co.uk
The UK’s renewable energy target for 2010 will mostly be achieved through large-scale renewable energy projects. However, small-scale installations should also play an important role. Renewable energy is an indispensable factor in developing sustainable communities and small-scale production is an effective way for a community to produce its own electricity. Over the last few years, we have seen many developments in the technology of small-scale wind turbines and the number in use has risen dramatically as they become more efficient and cost effective. Building-integrated wind systems have also been the subject of considerable research and show a great deal of potential with many successful prototypes being developed. Sustainable community projects now have feasible options to generate their electricity through small-scale or building integrated wind power.
To give the latest developments in this sector wider exposure, BRE is hosting a one-day event in partnership with the British Wind Energy Association. The event will cover: Market Overview; Case Studies; Grid Connection Issues; and DTI plans and Planning Issues. The conference and exhibition will give delegates knowledge of what technologies are available, and how they can be incorporated into building developments.

Planning for Renewables
BRE is part of a consortium delivering a ground breaking project for London Renewables. Meeting renewable energy targets places new demands on planning processes. In order to meet these demands an innovative toolkit has been developed that assists planners, developers and consultants. BRE is leading a cross-London training programme on the use of the toolkit and how to integrate renewable energy technologies into new developments.
INREB is launching a new membership scheme, which is open to any organisation or individual with an interest in low carbon communities and buildings. The organisation promotes the development of new and renewable energy technologies in buildings and membership. Benefits include:
annual conference discounts, worth up to £100 – including discounted entrance fee to resource05 and discounts to INREB conferences
access to Members’ area of the INREB website (www.inreb.org), which allows members to:
develop their own advertising page
create hyperlinks to their organisation’s website
download regular updates on funding opportunities and policy documents
search for project partners from industry and academia
use the discussion forum to raise issues
download the INREB newsletter.
