To take part in these free networking events, please sign up on arrival at resource05 on the booking sheets in the registration tent. Places are limited (each event shows the total places available) and are on a first come, first served basis. Locations are shown on the site plan in the event showguide. Note that many of these events have the same start time, so it will not be possible to attend all the sessions. The main exhibition hall is open until 17.00.

 

Event 1 Site Tour –15.30-16.30

Meet in the resource05 registration tent. Maximum 30 people (in two groups of 15)

A tour of the BRE site, including visits to The Environmental Building and the Integer House.


Event 2 PassivHaus workshop – 15.30-16.30

Building 17 1st floor Coffee Lounge (max 30 people)

  • Can I build a passive house?
  • What are the latest developments in energy efficient technology and which should I use?
  • How can I improve insulation, ventilation & air tightness of my building?

This workshop offers insightful information on PassivHaus design and will familiarize you with some of the products, design methods and building practices which can be employed to achieve high standards of sustainable design.

Event 3 Generation Homes - approaches to ultra low-emission refurbishment projects

Generation Homes is an initiative that aims to establish a systematic approach to addressing the challenge of 60% national carbon emission reductions by focusing on the UK residential sector. It targets the existing housing stock. In order to trigger a wave of ultra low-carbon refurbishment, Generation Homes is focused on developing initial demonstration projects where its integrated solutions concept is put to practice.

Event 5 Visit to Renewable Energy Systems (RES) 17.30-20.30

Visit to RES at Beaufort Court (maximum 70 people)

Renewable Energy Systems Group is one of the world's leading developers, builders and operators of medium to large scale wind farms.  The visit will be to the RES headquarters, a groundbreaking sustainable refurbishment of the old Ovaltine Egg Farm. Most famous for its 50m wind turbine visible to motorists on the M25, Beaufort Court is entirely self-sufficient in heat and power generated on site from a range of renewable energy technologies, including a large solar thermal and PVT array and five hectares of energy crop.  Award-winning Beaufort Court is a world first in zero-emissions commercial development.  

The visit will include a short presentation, a tour of the site to include the renewable energy technologies and the buildings, followed by wine and canapés.

Event 6 Designing and Building to best practice standards 15.30-17.00

Integer House (max 20 people)

An interactive session based on practical tools and tips that Local Authorities, Housing Associations and the construction industry can help us to help make developments more sustainable. The session will split into 2, with an overview of best practice including upcoming events followed by a pressure test demonstration.


Event 7 Insulation and  breather membranes  in  energy efficient roofs and walls

Discuss whether Part L requirements have actually increased the problems of moisture management in buildings.  A seminar for industry experts to share information on their experiences, chaired by Web Dynamics Ltd.

Event 8 Building-Integrated Renewable Energy Solutions for Low/Zero Carbon Buildings
15.30-16.15 and 16.15-17.00

Building 18 Conference Room (max 45 people)

This presentation will give an introduction and overview of building-integrated renewable energy solutions for carbon-free/carbon neutral energy provision and abating carbon dioxide emissions.  It will cover predominantly small-scale technologies appropriate for buildings including wind, solar, ground, biofuel and water based energy solutions and innovative building design approaches for electricity, heating, cooling and ventilation provision.  In addition the presentation will cover some of the recent development innovations in building integrated/augmented wind power solutions.
